Diploma Mills

Trust us with your children: School pyschologists don't need psychology degree.

August 13, 2007 - The Pittsburg Post-Gazette has a story on diploma mills and the academic bogus degrees sold to federal employees on congressional staffs and with NASA, U.S. Customs and the Pentagon. And, apparently, schools. They briefly mention without elaborating further on this case.

Former Pittsburgh Public Schools psychologist Donald Stettner also claimed he received a doctorate from Columbia State University. His counterfeit credentials were not discovered until after he was accused of molesting children in 2003. He was suspended without pay, and his employment status with the district is still pending.
From KDLA Nov 3, 2003 - KDLA investigator Andy Sheehan discovered the credentials were bogus.
Stettner claims he received a master's in psychology from Newport University -- which KDKA discovered is an Internet school that is not accredited by the US Department of Education. In fact, in four states, it's a crime to put a Newport University degree on your resume.
In addition, he claimed a doctorate in the philosophy of social work from Columbia State University, a California "diploma mill."

The city schools and state never questioned Stettner's resume, because a psychology degree is not required to be a school psychologist -- and they didn't see the need to dig any further.
