June 26, 2007 - Dustin Powers, 36, a gym teacher at Simpson Middle School, pleaded guilty to sexual battery for having a sexual relationship with a now-14-year-old girl.

June 28 - WBNS Ch 10: The prosecutor said the relationship started in 2005 when the girl, now 14, would have been 12-years-old. When Powers was later notified of a recommendation that he be fired, officials said he resigned, relinquishing his teaching credentials immediately
He will be sentenced August 29.

TEACHING LICENSE SURRENDER : June 18 -
During a multi-agency investigation that included school officials, the Mansfield Police Department and Richland County Children Services, it was determined enough credible evidence existed to warrant a pre-disciplinary hearing. However, instead of attending the formal hearing, Powers opted to have his attorney forward the signed permanent voluntary license document to school officials.---------------------------------------
SENTENCED: September 5 - Powers was sentenced to five years' probation for sex with a 14-year-old girl. He will also be designated a sexually oriented offender and must get sex offender treatment. Powers is married with two children. A four-year prison sentence was suspended. (Sentencing judge was Judge James Henson.)

BACK IN JAIL Jan 8, 2008 - Powers is back in jail for violating his probation by having sexual contact with the same girl, now 15, twice in December. He pleaded innocent.
According to a Jan. 3 Mansfield police report, someone reported to Children Services that the girl and Powers had engaged in sexual conduct within the last month.
Police are asking citizens with information about the case contact to Richland County Children Services at 419-774-4100 or Mansfield police Detective Jeff Shook at 419-774-3533.
The victim’s mother told Henson in September that Powers’ had destroyed her relationship with her daughter. “She will not speak to me,” the woman said. “I’m the bad guy."

SENTENCED Jan 9 - Powers pleaded guilty to a violation of his probation and was sentenced to four years in prison.

INDICTED March 17 - Dustin Powers was indicted on three counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.
“The circumstances are that while he was on community control he went back into the same relationship he was having with the minor he was involved with prior to. It is alleged that on at least three separate occasions he had sexual intercourse with her.---------------------------------------
And as a consequence we have charged him with three more counts. He is facing eight years for each additional count,” Couch-Page said.
According to Couch-Page, Powers is already a tier three offender based upon his prior conviction.
