Fayetteville, ARKANSAS

May 21, 2007 - Craig Edwards, 26, former agriculture teacher, pleaded guilty Monday to second-degree sexual assault involving a student.

Edwards was sentenced to six years' probation and 30 days of community service. He was ordered to pay a $1,500 fine, register as a sex offender, provide a DNA sample and its $250 collection fee and get psychological screening.

TT - How does someone who qualifies to be a registered sex offender get off with six years probation? And what is with "community service" for offenders? Isn't that offensive to the community to have such a miscreant shoveled off on them?

July 9 - The Arkansas Board of Education voted to revoke Edwards' teaching license permanently.
