Sentenced to 13 years in prison for attempted murder.
Feb 23, 3007 - Michael Olliver, 47, was arrested charge of attempted murder of his estranged girlfriend. He was placed under a $500,000 bond.
Olliver was a Southern Wayne High School coach. He resigned in Jul 2004. He made headlines a few years ago as a father helping his son battle a rare medical condition. (More here.)
He had been served over the weekend with a protective order filed against him late last week. Sources said he was also wanted in Jefferson County, Texas, for probation violations. The 1999 charges were domestic violence-related.
He stabbed Erica Shariss Jennings outside her townhouse. According to Raleigh police, Ms. Jennings sought help from neighbors and was taken to WakeMed Raleigh campus, where she has been in critical condition. More

Court records show Olliver was convicted in 1999 in Port Arthur, Texas, of a misdemeanor charge of making terroristic threats.Wayne County Schools didn't mandate background checks on prospective employees until 2002.GUILTY PLEA AND SENTENCED - Jan 18, 2008 - Olliver pleaded guilty to attempted murder and was sentenced to 13 years in prison.
But McCoy couldn't say whether it would have prevented Olliver from getting hired."We look at the misdemeanors and we look at the felonies. When they are known felons, of course, we're not hiring anyone," he said.
