Charleston, WEST VIRGINIA

Jan 4, 2007 - A Charleston woman was sentenced to three years probation for her part in a fire in a home two years ago. It happened to be the home of Michael Beckett, an elementary school teacher who had a clandestine drug lab in his basement.

Beckett pleaded guilty in June to operating a drug lab. "He said then that while he did not participate in the manufacture of methamphetamine, he knew that's what the women were doing in his basement."
He was sentenced to three years probation. (An outrageous sentence.)

He was fired from his job as a fifth grade teacher at J.E. Robins Elementary School following his arrest.
