Grambling, LOUISIANA

This truly qualifies as Trash Education.

Oct 5 -

The president of Grambling State University will seek sanctions against five teachers following an investigation into a lesson involving a noose at an on-campus elementary school, he said Friday.

Committees will consider the sanctions, which range from dismissal to a written reprimand.
President Horace Judson said Monday he would investigate the Sept. 20 incident at the university-run school in which a noose was placed on a student's neck.

The incident sparked outrage after the university's student newspaper ran on its Web site photos and a story on what was supposed to be a lesson on racism.

Kindergarten and first-grade students at Alma J. Brown Elementary School were being taught why nooses are a symbol of racism, an article from the historically black university's student newspaper said.

The article said the children also were being taught about the "Jena Six" — black high-school students who are accused of beating a white schoolmate. Court proceedings brought about 20,000 to 25,000 people to Jena, about 70 miles from Grambling, for a civil rights march in September.

The activity showed a lack of judgment, Judson said.
Judson had earlier ordered the newspaper shutdown and ordered them to remove the pictures and article from their website.
