Clarksville, TENNESSEE

Comment on his latest sentence : "You know how pathetic the justice system here is when I was actually happy he at least got some jail time. I was really expecting the system to be entirely suspended."

May 21, 2007 - Bryan Farmer, a Northeast High School teacher and basketball coach, was arrested in 2006 and charged with statutory rape for allegedly having sex with a 16-year-old female. Four months later, he was indicted on the previous charge with three more counts of statutory rape and 10 counts of sexual battery by an authority figure. In total, 18 counts of sexual battery.

His jury trial is expected to begin today with jury selection. Farmer is also being sued by another former student.

The Leaf Chronicle: "Farmer was indicted on a total of 18 charges with three victims, which include four counts of statutory rape and 14 counts of sexual battery by an authority figure.
However, the court decided in a separate trial last week to sever the counts." This trial is on eight counts for one victim.
Full Name: Bryan Dale Farmer

GUILTY VERDICT May 24 - The jury found Farmer guilty of one count of sexual battery but acquitted him of the charge of statutory rape. Farmer is scheduled to be sentenced on July 3. No date yet for any other trial. WKRN reports that Farmer had been teaching at Sycamore High School in Cheatham County when he was arrested in the latest case. He was fired from Cheatham County school system a year ago.

Update May 26 - This comment was posted at the Tennessean.

FYI: He has 2 more upcoming trials accused of the same thing with students from Northeast High School in Montgomery County. He was also investigated for the same thing in the year 2000 and 2001 at the school where he taught in Franklin County. Luckily for him there, the school was nice enough to do their own investigation before police were involved. It might have helped that he was a local basketball star there as well as having a father who worked for the school system. This man is a sexual predator and needs to be put away, he has gotten away with this behavior for way too long.
SENTENCED July 6 - Farmer was sentenced to 60 days in prison, three years probation and 350 hours of community service. He still faces two more trials as well as a civil lawsuit.

July 20 - Farmer was supposed to turn himself in today but he failed to do so.

July 21 - Farmer reported to jail. His next trial is scheduled for Nov 28.

MOTION DENIED July 30 - A judge denied a motion for a new trial.

NO CONTEST PLEA Nov 26 - Farmer pleaded no contest to three counts of statutory rape. All the other charges against him connected to the case were dismissed. The state dropped six counts of sexual battery by an authority figure in this case and one count of the same offense in a third case.

He will be sentenced in Feb 28. He has lost his license to teach in Tennessee.

SENTENCING DELAYED Feb 28 - Sentencing has been delayed until June 6. Opposing attorneys agreed to the request pending the outcome of Farmer's appeal from his his first trial last May. Circuit Court Judge John Gasaway was hesitant to grant the request as he said the disposition could take up to a year. Farmer has not served the 60 day sentence.

SENTENCING HEARING June 6 - The father of the victim testified about the effect on his daughter. Farmer asked the judge to give him the opportunity to move on with his life and be a good father to his 5-month-old son in Alabama and marry the mother of his child. The fact that Farmer said it wasn't all his fault, but he didn't blame the victim for what happened, led the assistant district attorney to conclude Farmer showed no remorse for his actions.

Farmer is a registered sex offender in Tennessee. Farmer, who lost his Tennessee teaching license, said he doesn't want to ever teach again, but would like to coach one day.

SENTENCED (Sorta) June 10 - Farmer was sentenced to 120 days in jail - not prison - and two years of probation. Farmer must begin his 120 day jail sentence on July 10.

SENTENCE UPHELD August 19 - The Court of Criminal Appeals upheld the courts judgment in the case. Farmer appealed the case to the court of appeals stating the evidence was insufficient to sustain his conviction because he did not use his supervisory power over the victim to accomplish a sexual act and the court erred by not granting him full probation.
They also said he was not "entitled to probation as a matter of law," and the court was not wrong in denying Farmer probation due to a "questionable potential for rehabilitation based on both his denial of guilt and his previous resignation from employment due to a an inappropriate relationship with a student.

"The court did not err when it determined a sentence other than full probation would provide an effective deterrent to others likely to commit similar crimes."
TT - Guess he won't be able to 'just move on." At least not for 60 days.

Tennessee is not known for robust sentencing of teachers who have sex with students.

This guy better cop a plea. The jury will eat him alive. I'm sure there is a cell for him in prison.

I hope all the victims sue him and that he does prison time.

The court just gave this guy "a slap on hand". 60 days in jail does not even cover how long he has been molesting young girls. I hope that he gets more in his other trials and I hope all his victims sue him for all he is worth.

Again, not under the coach category. You seem to over look coaches doing wrong.
